DOB: February 18, 1995
Age: 14
Years Racing: 5
Hometown: Boulder, CO
Occupation: Cyclist/Student
Category: Junior

There is something truly exciting about a young athlete who becomes inspired and then goes onto perform at a high level in sports. Zack first got into bike racing when he was nine years old and saw the TDF on TV. He said, “he thought it was really cool and wanted to try it out. Luckily my mom is really good friends with Randy Gaffney and he got me started and on a team”.

Zack has taken it from there and regularly trains and shows up at time trials, hill climbs, criterium, road races, mountain bike races, and cyclo-cross races, producing great results. Zack’s favorite training ride is Super-Flagstaff, where he rides his Specialized Tarmac SL2.

Zack said the VO2max performance testing at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine is good because, “you have to really push yourself to your limit.” He also admitted he enjoys “any sort of painfully hard sport.” Zack turns on the TV and blasts the music when training indoors in winter, but also likes running and swimming.

Zack said if he were not riding a bike he would like to be a surfer in California. Zack has tremendous goals and said he would like to have a good education, and graduate from an Ivy or Ivy equivalent school (Stanford) with a 4.0 GPA - graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He would also like to make it to the professional level in cycling and win a National, World and Olympic Gold.

Zack likes hanging out with friends, likes an espresso or a hot chocolate at Vic’s Espresso, and lists his superhero as Taylor Phinney. Zack is a great addition to the team and said it is important to him to be “a good teammate and have a world-wide positive impact on the sport.”
