Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile Burt Henry DOB: August 10, 1964 Years Racing: 17 Hometown: Lafayette Occupation: Cycling Coach/Fitness Consultant Burt is a USA Cycling level 1 coach, a CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist) through NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association). He is a licensed but currently non-practicing doctor of chiropractic. Burt has a coaching business at BurtHenryCoaching.com. He is also Director of the Vic’s Espresso/Peerless Junior Cycling Team (which includes his son Brandon Henry). Burt’s top honors in racing include 3 state Masters TT Championships and 4x top 8 at National TT Championships. Burt said, “I am a time trial geek and am constantly trying to improve as I get older. My goal is to one day win a National TT championship.” He also has a fantasy of being a hill-climber and “riding away with the competition up steep climbs,” he said, but admits that at 183 lbs, he will have to live vicariously through his hill-climber son Brandon. Burt was motivated to begin racing because he was getting spanked badly when he first took up club cycling. He said, “I was awful. As I improved I wanted to test myself and racing provided good benchmarks. I also loved the suffering.” In fact he likes the suffering so much that Burt said if he were not racing he would most likely pick something else to suffer in. Burt said when he trains inside, he listens to very loud Foo Fighters and muted cycling video. When not racing, Burt enjoys riding the Fruit Loops outside of Lyons, Colorado and spending his time Nordic, Telemark, and Alpine skiing and backpacking. His favorite Vic’s drink is a simple dark roast coffee. His favorite piece of Specialized gear is his Transition Time Trial Bike. Burt’s choice for superhero for a week was another time trialer, Fabian Cancellara.
