Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile Bill Brant DOB: October, 1956 Years Racing: 12 Hometown: Jacksonville, NC Occupation: Engineering Program Manager Bill started racing in 1983, looking for a competitive outlet. He said he “loved the speed, strategy, skill and pure athleticism, but quit in 1994 due to family obligations. After being off for 15 years, I restarted because nothing motivates me to get in shape like bicycle racing.” During his years off from racing (1993 to 2007), he spent his time playing soccer and running marathons. When Bill was asked what his favorite performance test at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine was, he replied, “You're kidding, right?” It is clear it was not through testing that Bill earned his Gold in the Men's 30-34 Colorado State RR Championships in 1992. However it was through testing that Bill decided that his favorite drink at Vic’s Espresso was a Hot Chocolate with whipped cream! These days with his new Specialized Tarmac SL2, “light, comfortable but stiff in all the right places. I love it!” he enjoys riding up Lee Hill, Ward, and Jamestown. Bill says, “I love carving the curves on the descent into Jamestown.” For training indoors in winter, Bill’s tip is to watch television during the easier efforts, and he closes his eyes and imagines climbing when going hard (followed by analyzing the power/cadence/HR data in real time). In his spare time Bill enjoys photography, motorcycling, occasionally dirt biking at the MX track, MTB, and local bluegrass.
